Holy Hoops

Former Holy Cross basketball biggie-turned-commercial director Kevin Kerwin is netting kudos on the flickfest circuit with "Filmic Achievement," his "Spinal Tap"-ish look at film school. But for his next flick pick, Kerwin, 35, is looking to poke fun at the college hoop game with "Pine Time," the story about his last two years on the Holy Cross bench.

"I love doing satire and the world of college hoop does lend itself to the satirical," said the writer/director who played for the Crusaders from 1988-1992. "I want to do something about a kid who finally has that ah-ha moment and realizes he's not going to play for the NBA," Kerwin told the Track. "You know, a sports comedy."

In the meantime, the ex-jock is directing TV spots for HBO and appearing at flickfests with "Filmic Achievement," a wry look at his experience at Columbia University's graduate film school. "The humor is much like 'The Office,' but more subtle than 'Best in Show,' " said the Pittsburg homey, who will show at this afternoon's screening at the Independent Film Festival of Boston at the Somerville Theatre.
